The goal of the tutoring initiative is to help WSU students meet their academic goals by providing superior academic assistance including tutoring and Supplemental Instruction. Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a highly effective academic assistance program that utilizes regularly-scheduled, informal study sessions in which students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together under the guidance of a student who has already excelled in the course. SI has supported the following courses:
Minnesota Rocks & Waters
Resources of the Earth
General Psychology
Statistics
Calculus I
Anatomy & Physiology
Microbiology
Chemistry for Health Sciences
Dynamic Earth
Natural Disasters
Since the awarding of additional funds through the L21 initiative, student contact hours have increased 660%. On average, students attending SI earned grades at least 6% and up to 19% higher than non-attendees. |
