Money Management for Students

Students are graduating from college with significant financial debt. That means it is critical that they begin to plan to manage that debt while they are still in school. This SIA award supported the creation of a web-based reference booklet and Power Point presentation to to educate students and their parents on money management.

The material includes, among other things, loan repayment calculators, budget material, national averages for starting salaries, and estimates on borrowing maximums based on those starting salaries. It also addresses such issues as credit scores, credit history, identity theft and credit card use.

The information was introduced at the during June 2008 First-year student registration and shared with all faculty members teaching orientation sessions in fall 2008.

The money management brochure and presentation are available at http://www.winona.edu/financialaid/8698.asp.
