Research and Development of a WSU Parent Handbook

	This Special Initiative Award supported development of an online Parent Handbook for parents of new and current students. The Handbook explains to parents what it is like to be a student -- both the opportunities and the challenges that lie ahead for their son or daughter. It also explains university policies and procedures and provides detailed information on services available for students, such as tutoring, counseling and health services. The Handbook provides numerous articles coaching parents on how to support their child's transition to independence. Many WSU students are the first generation in their families to attend a four-year college. The handbook is intended to ease parents' concerns, reassure them, and educate them on the negative effects of "hovering" too closely. Click on Parent Handbook to access the site.
