Residence Hall Peer Conduct Board
Shehan Hall

This Special Initiative Award supported a pilot project to operate a Residence Hall Peer Conduct Board.  The Board was charged with hearing cases involving minor violations of Residence hall policies (noise, trash, etc.) and determining appropriate educational sanctions.

Fifteen students were selected to be Board members and participated in training in mid-September, 2006.  From October 2006 through March 2007, fifty students chose to have their cases heard by the Peer Conduct Board.

Board members reported their participation was a valuable experience, particularly in terms of feeling like they were a part of WSU and they had a responsibility to the halls.  They also believed the experience increased their knowledge of policies and procedures, their understanding of the judicial system and their leadership abilities.  The Hall Directors estimated the Board saved them some 50 hours of collective work.
