Feedback on Name Change

student

We have a great history with our current name. Why change good things!

student

name_idea_one: minnesota state university, winona.  Well it doesnt really matter, if winona state university would to change its to minnesota state university, winona is also the same.If other name, for example Kruger State University or etc, then probably its not really appropriate.

Student

I don't think we should change its name because everything and everyonethat has gave their time and effort put it into WSU. It has built itselfover the years and I think changing the name would devalue it. I don't seethe need for a change so I don't agree with it.

student

NO. What is the need to?Nothing wrong with name now.   Changing it to Minn state U will get it confused with U of M.  Own name shows what an independent school it is

student

i dont think that we should change the name, first of all changing our name will include spening a lot o f money, everything that says wsu will have to be changed. all of this money could be used on acedemics and other improvements that the university needs, secondly it has had this name for so long already it works just fine i think that alumni m9ight be dissappointed if it was changed. there really is no need to do this.

student

name_idea_one: University of Minnesota Winona.  I think that we should change our name. We would be better known as well as letting people know where Winona is. WSU can be confused for such school as Washington State University. I like the idea.

student

I like the name of Winona State University as it is. As you begin toread the name, you know right away what school you are talking about. If it is changed to something that has Minnesota State University at thebeginning the public will have to continue reading in order to know justwhat school is being mentioned. Plus, I believe that if the name ischanged, when someone currently enrolled here speaks of the school, theywill continue to refer to it as Winona State University. That shouldremain the name of the school for years to come.

Student

1. I do not think WSU should change its name for several reasons. One it would be a hassle that would be in my oppinion completely unnecessary. Asthey say " If it ain't broke don't fix it." I also feel that it would be awaste of money and resources to change the name of the University, as itwould certainly be expensive to change all publications, etc. involved withthe name Winona State. It would be a hassle that we just don't need. I also don't think we need this to complicate an allready problematic computersystem. In my oppinion we should leave well enough alone.

student

I believe the name should remain the same, if not for the students, for the alumni. A name change would ruin a perfectly good heritage. Winona State University, is a name in my mind that comes with a lot of prestige and honor. To have it changed would be wrong.

Student

I like the idea.

Student

I don't think that Winona State should change its name because it makesthings much more complicated. People know this university as Winona StateUniversity. If it were changed, then the image may change and it wouldjust change the entire character of the school.I think that the name is appealing and when I hear WSU, I think of WinonaState University. We don't need to worry about changing the name, there should be more important things to worry about on the agenda.  Thank You for considering my opinion.

student

I don't think that wsu should change thier name. I like the current name. Also it keeps its own identity. Another reason is my family and I alreadyhave a tone of clothes that say "Winona State University". I think that if something isn't broken, it shouldn't be fixed!

student

there is no reason that WSU should change it's name. if anything, the school mascot, should be changed. "warrior" might be offensive to some populations. but there is no valid reason to change the name. the u of m in minneapolis and duluth have high standards for academics and extra-curriculars, and if all state schools were named u of m, (CITY NAME) than would the standards for these schools change? is there a problem with the name Winona State Univerisity? i dont see on personally. if there is something that i am not aware of, please notify me and the rest of the student population.

STUDENT

I DO NOT THINK IT SHOULD, IT HAS HAD THE SAME NAME FOR MANY YEARS ANDTHERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT REASON FOR CHANGING ITS NAME. PEOPLE ARE PROUD TOSAY THEY ATTEND(ED) WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY, IF THE NAME IS CHANGED IBELIEVE IT WILL CHANGE HOW PEOPLE FEEL ABOUT THE SCHOOL, PRESENT OR PASTNO NEED TO CHANGE IT

faculty

I don't think that WSU should change its name. WSU is established in thiscommunity that way and should stay. Why should we change it when the namedoesn't offend anyone?? I believe that WSU is a very proud name, both forthe college and the community. Not every community can say they have acollege and WSU is one of the oldest in the area. Some things aren't meantto be changed and WSU's name should be one of them.

student

I think that Winona State University is a great name and well known. I believe that it might have more prestige if it was called something with Minnesota in the name.

student

I don't believe a namechange is necessary. What is wrong with Winona State University? If a namechange is passed, who will pay for all the expenses of changingWSU's name? I assume it will be the students and that will not make me happy. No name change, period.

student

name_idea_one: University of Minnesota-Winona. Name_idea_two: Minnesota State University-Winona. I would not like the name of the university to be changed until I have specific reasons in my pocket as to why. Just because we've been askedto think about it is not a reason, and I would like to know why this is even a consideration.

Student

I do not want to see the school change the name. For one reason, I like the name Winona State. Alumni will always refer to our school as Winona State. That is what it is know as and always will be. Students, current and past believe that Winona State is their school. You can't try to change that. Other people who have no connections to our school also know it as Winona State. I believe that a name change would only be a confusion. Another reason that we should not change our name is because other than MnSCU, we have no real connection to the other "Minnesota University" schools. We are not the same school at different locations. Having a different name also gives Winona State it's own identity. If perspective students are not able to read a brochure, make a phone call, or do a little bit of research to find out the Winona State is in Minnesota, do we really want them at our university? If having people know that our school is in Minnesota is such an issue, than rename it to Winona State University, Minnesota.

Student

I believe WSU should NOT change its name. I think thatby keeping the current name, the school is better distinguished from the other state schools. If it were to change to MSU-Winona, it would become just another state college. By keeping the current name, it sets WSU apart from the others and establishes its uniqueness more effectively. WSU should not conform to the name change because the school would lose its identity. No one wants WSU to become "just another state college," they want it to be unique and they want it to recognized for that uniqueness; something that I feel Mankato lost by changing its name.

Student

1. Reasons for name change: I think that a name change would help distinguish the location of WinonaState University and would also identify the type of institution that is Winona State. In the summer of 1997, I was hired to be a research assistant in a physics lab at the University of Connecticut. During that summer, some undergraduate students with similar occupations for the summer and I visited some universities in the Boston area. To be precise, Harvard, MIT, and Boston University. During an interview, one professor at MIT asked us to say who we were and where we were from. Penn State, Cornell, UC Santa Cruz, and (last but not least) Winona State. His response was "Winona where?" For the duration ofthe discussion, my questions were either ignored or diverted. So in response to why change the name; so other students searching employment or graduate study will not have to go through the humiliation of alienation by snobby employers or colleagues. Simply having the word "Minnesota" in the title of the university at least adds some hint of location to people other than Minnesotans. Winona State University in a Minnesota State College and University, is it not? Another benefit of having Minnesota in the name of the university is the value of recognition. Although the main priority of university professors is teaching, some (mostly in the math and stat department) publish research in journals and magazines. Along with the publication of research comes prestige associated with the university and throughout the department. So why not have a name that will be easier to remember and and to give credit where credit is due. Finally, having a different college name might draw more talented and educated students to Winona State. I know that Winona State prides itself on its incomimg ACT scores, but lets be serious. The core of students at Winona State in not impressive. For the most part, faculty at this school loathe the work ethic and study habits of its students. Hopefully, name change would appeal to better students. 2. Suggestions for a name change: Minnesota State University, Winona. Minnesota State, Winona

Student

3rd year student at Winona State. I think that Winona State University should NOT change it's name. 1. Our name presently represents the beautiful city of Winona, a relatively small community, with a college offerring the benefits of small size classes. 2. Yes we are a part of the state university system, and our name reflects that as Winona STATE UNIVERSITY. 3. I imagine a name change will cost something? If so, this money could be used much more effectively, in ways that directly affect the student body. 4. By changing our name, it seems as though we are saying that ourUniversity wants to gain as much attention as the University of MN, or UMD? Winona offers other aspects that the larger Universities do not. We should emphasize what Winona has to offer and not claim to be the same as the other Minnesota State Universities. Winona should maintain the uniqueness our University has to offer. 5. Let's not follow the leader...let's be the leader.

Student

I don't believe Winona State should change it's name because have a state college without the state it's in listed with it is becoming a rarity. Having just Winona State University gives the university more character also, also gives it more of a small town college atmosphere just by the name. A lot of people dont like going to large universities and have the state name with may make people think that it's not as small as it seems. NO name change

STUDENT

I don't believe WSU should change its name because people, in general, feel more comfortable around familiar things. Changing the name of our university may give an unnecessary shock not only to its students and faculty, but also to the people who have lived around the WSU community for, possibly, their entire lives. Merely changing an establishments name does nothing in the way of changing what that institution offers. Changing WSU's name would also require that funds be devoted to changing merchandise, letterheads, EVERYTHING -- funds that need to be directed elsewhere. NO NAME CHANGE!!!

Student

i believe winona should not change it's name. WSU is already establishedas a good college. the only advantage to changing the name would be to identify that it is in the state of minnesota, but then i fear our college would be confused w/the other minnesota colleges.

Student

If the name would be changed to something such as Minnesota State University, Winona, Winona would lose it's title. I never knew which university was being talked about when it was generalized like that. WSU has kept it's name for so long and it is well known for. I do NOT think it should be changed. People who graduate from WSU will not have very many benifits if the name is changed (even though the school is the same past alumni won't be able to associate their degree to the same name). If it needs to be changed change it to Winona State University, Minnesota. Then it will not have lost the name and Minnesota is defined also. There are many state schools in Minnesota, but only one state school in Winona. That needs be stand out in the beginning. Keep it the same!

Student

first year student. 1. WSU should not change it's name because it would cause so many more money problems. Teams are already having to buy different uniforms in order to keep up with the color changes, and to add a name change on top of that might put many teams into debt shouldn't be there! 2. Students who have already bought clothing that have the WSU logo on it will be cheated out of money because their sweatshorts, shirts, shorts, etc. will be outdated. As long as we are paying tuition we shouldn't have to worry about buying new clothes that have our new name and possibly new colors on them. 3. People won't notice that the name is changed for a long time anyway and to keep the tradition and memories alive we should keep the name we have and use it to better our reputation and uphold the ones we already have.

Student

Here are my answers. My opinion is that our name should remain the same! I don't understand the logic behind a name change, and if you are seriously considering this, maybe you should give the students more information about your reasons! I hope you think about this seriously and make no rash decisions.

STUDENT

I THINK WSU SHOULD NOT CHANGE IT'S NAME BECAUSE IT IS ORIGINAL. WSU HAS A MUCH NICER RING THAN SAY, MSUW. WE SHOULD THINK OF THE UNIQUENESS OF HAVING THE NAME WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY, AND PERSONALLY I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT THE BENEFITS COULD BE OF RENAMING THE SCHOOL. I THINK WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY IS WELL KNOWN AND TO CHANGE THE NAME MIGHT JEOPARDIZE IT'S REPUTATION. ONE OTHER REASON IS BECAUSE WHEN I THINK OF UW I THINK OF WISCONSIN, NOT MINNESOTA. IF THE NAME WAS CHANGED FROM WSU TO MSUW, PEOPLE MIGHT GET CONFUSED. I DON'T THINK THE NAME SHOULD BE CHANGED!

Student

I believe very strongly that WSU should not change its name in any form. I believe that WSU gives us a unique indentity and I for one believe that individuality is very important. I dont like the idea of changing our name so that we can all be associated together. I think that it would be a wrong decision for you all if the name were to be changed. I think that students should be able to be proud of their name and I think that by changing the name will only put us in to a sort of "Clique." Winona State University has a long rich history and the name says a lot and I believe STRONGLY THAT IT SHOULD REMAIN WSU!!!!

STUDENT

I don not think WSU should change it's name. I think that it's current name, winona state university, has character and is not as "uniform" as the names given to the other schools. I vote we stay with Winona State University.

Student

I believe that WSU should in fact change its name because it would give us more recognition around the nation. Today people don't know where Winona State University is, but if the name was changed to Minnesota State then people would know at least what state the school is in. I don't really know what to call the new name, but I think that Minnesota should somehow be worked into it. Minnesota State University, Winona would be just fine with me.

student

name_idea_one: Minnesota State University, Winona Campus. name_idea_two: University of Minnesota, Minnesota WSU should change its name. My primary reason is name recognition. Employers who have never heard of Winona likely know where MN is. Adding the word MN to the name adds prestiege.

student

I dont think that wsu should change its name because we are a well established school already. changing the name to make it more know that we are a part of the minnesota state system is not a good reason to change our name. winona state has had its name for many years now and should retain that even though times are changing, our schools traditions dont need to.

student

Dear Committee, I recieved your opinion e-mail and would like to help you make your decision. I am a student at WSUI have a rather opinionated response to question oneI would like the name to remain as it is for the main reason of <boldindividuality!!</boldIf the emphasis is put merely on it being a University, that would be like taking the W S out of Winona State UniversityI believe that a schools name belongs to the students I would like to be able to tell my grandchildren someday that I went to WSUIf the names continue to change, this will mean nothing to themI think it is sad that the names keep getting pushed for changesIt seems to me that many of the reasons are political, forgetting about why WSU exists -- students Without them, what would we have?Granted the teachers are important too, but the students should be the voice for the school. Please take into consideration my opinion in your decision makingI hope I can make a difference and help Winona State University to keep its' individuality.

Student

The college has always been known as Winona State, even when it wasn't "Winona State University." People are familiar with the current name. I don't think WSU needs to change its image, so why change the name? All other possible names I've heard sound awkward.

student

--too much hassle --love our current name --should not have to go with the rest of the state --do not want to be like Wisconsin with all their state names

student

Hi! This is (name), long-time (to say the least) student of WSU... I am astonished that the precious resources of this university are actually being utilized for this particular question. Addressing General Education requirements, technology planning, library materials and the lack thereof, facility upgrade and professional development all seem to be far more pressing concerns! This has been Winona State (either college or university) for years, and the idea that a name change will fundamentally change anything about the university seems laughable to me. I hope the administration and staff continues moving steadily forward with important EDUCATIONAL issues for Winona State. Thank you for this chance to my view. Yours humbly and sincerely, (name)

Student

Senior Engineering student. WSU should change its name to University of Minnesota--Winona or some such variant. 1. This would provide a wider recognition of the name, drawing a more diverse student body. 2. For graduating seniors, a more easily defined university is an easier sell to prospective employers. The reputation for quality at the U of M schools across the state will favorable affect WSU. University of Minnesota--Winona. Southeast Minnesota State University

student

name_idea_one: Minnesota State University, Winona. I think an alternate name like "Minnesota State University, Winona" would make better recognition to the nation. It is pretty obvious not everybody outside Minnesota, or even people within MN, know Winona. But, I think Minnesota State will create more appeal than Winona State. There are many examples all over the nation where many university follow the same pattern. University of California has more than 5 campus and all universities go by the same name. UC at Barkeley is definitely top rated university; but at the same time UCLA and other campus of university of California draw more attention from all over the nation. Thanks, (name)

student

name_idea_one: Minnesota State University. WSU should not change their name b/c 1. I feel the shorter the better 2. WSU is more personalized and sounds like it isn't just another school 3. WSU has already built up a good name for itself, why lose some of that. 4. Sure people might not know where Winona is but how many people know where Kent U., Clemson, Naval Acadamy, even where Norte Dame is. 5. Changing the name to bind in with the other state school make the school sound generic, low-class. 6. The only other name that I would expect would be a name that make this school, and this school alone, to be a school above everybody elses. This, I feel, is the key to changing or keeping a name (the school itself not the system).

student

i don't think WSU should change it's name becuase there is nothing wrong with it. there are many other things that could be done with the time and energy it would require

student

Well, it depends on what the name change is; it may cause some confusion as to if the administration is different, or any number of other things - a name change just for the sake of a name change doesn't seem to have a real big point. It would be very expensive, seeing that EVERY single thing that says "Winona State University" will now have to be changed.

student

1. it should not change because Winona State has a rich heritage. it has already gone by two other names and it should remain as WSU right now. This is the first four year teaching specific institution west of the mississippi and therefore we should also keep its heritage. Also i am a graduating sr. therefore all of my apparal and stickers and diploma say WSU on them. I want to proud of my alma mater but i can't tell my friends where i went to school because the name won't exist anymore. Thanks (name) Braodcasting major

student

i think wsu should change it's name to bsu meaning bangladesh state university because of their large population!!!

Student

- have no strong feelings- would make sense to call it MN state university-winona since our masters in nusing at least and maybe more programs are moving to a state wide curriculum--

student

I do not have a strong reason why WSU shouldn't change its name other than the fact that what is wrong with leaving it the way it has always been? It's a good name that students and alumni identify with and are proud to say they have been a member, changing it to Minnesota State, Winona takes away the glory some in my opinion.

Student

I don't think winona should changes it's name because Winona already is know nation wide. Students from many states attend winona state already, doesn't that say it's well known? Even if you changed the name, many students would still refer to the school as winona state university. It also will require you to change signs, cataloges, stationary etc. An increase in spending which in turn you might increase our tuition--that would be bad.

Student

I do not think that WSU should change its name because WSU has been around a very long time, and during that time, the name WSU has become common and it is also a name that encourages respect from those people who are looking to give us jobs. It would only confuse people if the college decided to suddenly change its' name.

student

name_idea_one: Riverside University. Having a name such as Winona State University only stereotypes the school as mediocre, at best. State Universities are a dime a dozen. They are typically portrayed as one step above Junior College. But, I believe this school is different. It is better than that. Thus, changing the name will tell people that WSU is not your run of the mill State University. It is a place were academics are first and foremost. Also, it may attact better stundents in the end.

student

I do not think WSU should change its name--people know the University from its current name and there does not seem to be a problem with the name the way it is. To change it would be confusing and not worth trying to make something different or better that already is good.

student

To who may concerns: * I'm a serior and my major is computer science. * I would like WSU to change its name because I believe that a "well-known" school name would benefit the student the most after they graduated from school & in their future fields. * A name such as Minnesota State University, Winona will do just fine! * The name I suggested also could attract some more international students from the other countries.

student

I believe that changing WSU's name would be a mistake. If you take and weigh all the odds, what good would really come from a new name? It is a costly process of changing all advertisements, bilboards, posters, clothing, memorabilia, plaques, etc. This money could go to various other places in need for improvement. Also, what about those students who have gone here for 3 years, they have sweatshirts and certificates..they do not want the name of their school changed. I guess I do not understand the benefits of a name change. I just feel it is a waste of time, energy, and money.

faculty

No. I believe we would lose our identity, uniqueness and individuality

student

I don't think WSU should change it's name because there is nothing wrong with WSU. I think the other names that were suggested would sound funny. When people say Winona State - they know what school you are talking about but if you go and add extra words the name is going to sound way to cluttered. Plus if you change the name you have to spend all the money getting it changed on everything else. I think we should just leave the name as is!

student

WSU should not change it's name. This school has a reputation and is known by it's name. People from out of state have heard of WSU. If we change the name then nobody would know where someone was talking about. It is nice that a student can say, "I go to WSU," and most poeple understand where that is. Also there is nothing wrong with the name. Why change a good thing?

student

It has been the school name for twenty some years. 2) the school name has been changed already four times. 3) The name of the school should stay original. 4) We don't need to join the trend. 5) WE already have good state recognition. 6) There are already many international students attending. 7) the cost of all the new clothing and signs around the university. 8) So the alumni can stay recognized. 9) I started out here at the university named WSU and would like to graduate that way. 10) All the students here found the school so obviously that shows that the school is being recognized. 11) WSU was in the top 100 colleges, leave the name alone

Student

No, I feel the university has already established itself under the name of WinonaState University. I think changing the name would be, in a way, disrespectfulof those who named the university long ago.

student

name_idea_one: U of M at Winona. It would be a waist of my money and the college's to change the name. The only way they should change Our name is if we go to the U of M at winona, thats the only way we the students would be benifited.

student

I think the name should remain the same. People may become confused about what school we are if our name is changed. It also confuses me as to why we would change our name after so many years of being Winona State University. I don't like the idea of a name change, but if we had to I would suggest: University of Minnesota-Winona, or Minnesota State University-Winona

student

WSU is a fine name. I don't believe a school can be better just because of a name. It's the people that make up the school. It would be to much trouble to change the name. WSU is more distinct than UM-Winona.

Faculty

Don't change the name. WSU is building a name for itself, an accomplishment that would be lost or muddled if we changed. Also, one of the most likely changes, MSU-Winona, takes a form that would do the university some good only if 'MSU' had some cachet in itself, like SUNY or U of Wisconsin (that is, if ALL state u's, including the U of M, were in a single system)...and this is NOT the case in Minnesota. For instance, everyone (?) knows that there is a great difference between the quality of the U of Cal system and the Cal State system...and as long as MnSCU and U of M are two distinct systems, MnSCU will be perceived as 'second rank', like Cal State schools.

student

I am a fourth-year student. I do NOT believe WSU should change its name. The name "Winona State" is part of what makes our school unique, and sets us apart from the other state universities. Winona State is known for the quality of many of its educational programs, and I think that changing the name that the school has held for so long would only do a disservice to the graduating students.

student

name_idea_one: Winona University of Southern Minnesota. I do not quite understand the bennifts of changing WSU name. Is it because of politic reason, or is everyone just bored. I am not totally against the idea if there was an important reason. I do not really like the idea of changing it to Minnesota. I like how we are separt form the big school and have our own identity. thank you very much for your time.

student

WSU should not change its name. When we say Winona State University, the first word is most important, WINONA! So if we change the name, the name Winona may be moved to the end of the name, and the name WINONA may be over looked!

Student

I'm a student here. They mine as well change their name to Minnesota State University, Winona like Mankato did. I don't know why everyone is so resistent to change around here. After all it seems to make more sense. When students graduate and go to another state possible employers may look at the name Winona State University and say "where the heck is this college from?" I mean it's not like Winona is that big or nice of a college that it is world renowned. This way Winona would be understood as a state college from Minnesota rather than some anal-retentive college that is too stuck in their ways to change there name like the other state colleges in Minnesota. Change is not always a bad thing. Classes down the line won't even realized this silly dilemma existed in a couple of years after the change. The semester thing was a big change for many people, but it needed to be done. Now people are adapting and going on with their lives as if it never happened. I guess what I'm saying is that those who may resist it now will probably not even think twice about it tomorrow, and overall it will be better altogether for future students. Minnesota State University, Winona.

student

I am a student at Winona State. I have heard that one reason for changing the nname would be to have the university better affiliated as a "state school." However, although this may be true, I like having a name that is individual. It gives pride to be able to say the name, rather than just associating Winona as a secondary name like Minnesota State University, WINONA. It doesn't have the same effect. It reminds me of all the Wisconsin school. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, UW-Stout, UW-Madison, etc. Their names don't give the same individuality and uniqueness. I would just leave the name Winona State University the way it is!!! Thank you.

student

I don't think it is necessary for WSU to change it's name.

student

No, I think it's a good idea to keep with tradition. Having an established name that has been the same for this many years gives the university a feel of creditability. I haven't heard any reasons that the school will actually benifit from a name change. It seems ridiculous to think of saying (for example) "University of Minnesota, Winona- formally known as Winona State University."

faculty

I feel rather ambivalent about this issue. I do not want to change to a name like Minnesota State University, Winona because I feel it does not capture what makes this institution unique. On the other hand, I am not sure if Winona State U. does either. I think what a lot of parents and students like about WSU is that it offers state-funded higher education in a liberal arts college atmosphere. I suppose if we are going to change the name, we should do so to reinforce or mirror that image. Simply "Winona University" -- drop the "State".

student

I believe they should not change their name. Look at Mankato State for example. Everybody knows one of the big reasons they changed it was so they could attach "Minnesota State University" to try and sound more academic and attract more students. I think WSU's reputation as a high quality school with small classes and decent tuition (all the other fees are another story), precedes itself. I do not think there would be anything to gain by changing the name. Not to mention the tens of

Student

1. I believe WSU shouldn't change its name because if it did all the WSU alumni would need to be notitfied of the change and current students who have apparel and/ or purchased apparel for family and relatives would need to purchase new apparel with the new name on it which costs the students more money.

student

I am a student here at Winona State University, and I am definitely in favor of a name change for the school. I don't think that Winona State sounds very professional on things like job or grad school applications, I think the school would get more recognition and be taken more seriously with a different name. I'm from Iowa, and I think that people in Minnesota and Wisconsin, who live nearby, don't mind the name because they know of the school, but if Winona is trying to bring in more out of state students, I think they would have better luck with a different name. Most people where I live have never heard of Winona State, and if they do, most don't ever seriously look into it. I really think that I would prefer almost any name to Winona State, but I wouldn't mind seeing it changed to University of Minnesota at Winona, or Minnesota State Univ. at Winona. Good luck with the decision and hope this helps.

student

I do not believe that WSU should change its name. From what I understand, it would be for reasons of conformity with the other state universities. I think Winona State University sound very distinctive, and for this reason, I believe it should remain this way.

student

I am a senior here at WSU and I believe that WSU should not change it's name. I am honored to tell people that I graduated from Winona State. Having Winona State as our name gives us our own personality and individualism.

student

wsu should change thier name because people from out of state don't know what state winona is in. it would also build more unity of the minnesota state colleges if WSU was changed to minnesota state university- Winona.

student

Leave it alone, it will not be recognized by a new name.

student

WSU should not change its name because it will be costly for the students and other financial supporters of the college to pay for the changes. It would be wasteful to change a name which has been held for such a long time.

student

I don't see the need to change it--what else could you call it? It makes sense to keep it Winona since after all--we live in the city of Winona and it is a state school.

Student

I don't think WSU should change the name. Because, it has been changed four times already. And people know Winona State and I feel if you change it, it will not get the recognition that it already has.
