No, you would lose identity of thousands of alumni. If you wish to keep the pride we now have, keep the name. The first "normal" school west of the mississippi whousl not have "Winona" removed from its name. You might let us know the reasone for considering a change. WSTC-WSC-WSU were logical progressions. Yes, it would give the University more national recognition. Most people outside of Minnesota have no idea where Winona State University is located. Follow Mankato's idea and Wisconsin also does this. Minnesota State University, Winona, Minnesota.

Yes, stay with the times as WSU has historically done. Keep pace with MSU-Mankato; note that this particular naming concept will serve WSU well, as it has Wisconsin's schools. "WSU-Winona" gives a broader (world-wide?) name recognition while maintaining local/regional identification and autonomy. Minnesota State-Winona. Nore consistency with Mankato and probably the inevitable change of all state schools.

WSU should not change its name. The university (college in my day) is in Winona. The name Winona has a rich historical significance to both the area of Winona and the state at large. When a student goes to Winona State University, you knoe that they go to a University in Winona. If it was renamed, say, Southeast State, everyone would ask..."where's that"...so just leave it Winona State. Please don't chanve a wonderul tradition!! Since 158 when we were the first of current Minnesota State Universities to be granted a charter as well as the first normal school west of the Mississippi river. We've always had that identity.(name)

Yes, the name should be changed. WSU seems to be becoming more affiliated with the U of M, so why not take on a more prestigious name: University of Minnesota-Winona (UMW)!

No, I am a grad of Winona State University. I would feel no ties to an institution without Winona in its name and would reconsider any support I give to that institution, money as well as political.

No, of course not! WSU has an established reputation it should be proud o!! A university can change and grow with teh time WITHOUT changing its name--most human beings seem to handle that quite well!! I'm sure the members of the "long range planning committee" have many other pressign issues to address without worrying themselves over this one.

No name change unless the town of Winona changes their name! Winona State University is under our state government control as "state" implies. Modern University like WSU has many kinds of colleges or schools within it. It was founded in 1858-has a good report with other states. A university can have more than one campus but the main one is in Winona!

Something stupid like SMU, Southern Minnesota University or stupider yet, MUS Minnesota State University, Winona...How many WSU's are there in WI?

No, a name is an identity. Not too many years ago it went from Winona State to Winona State University. It's nice to keep your identity and this is a nice name that clearly states it's part of otu University system. A name change is also costly. MAney could be used more effectively then for a name change. You are also loyal to the name of the school you attended.

No! Wsu is known throughout the national and international scene. WSU it readily identified with the City of WInona. Seems to me that MNSCU has more important items on their agenda. Like, cost of education to the students, quality of facluty at the universities, meeting the needs of working people who want to improve their education, etc. Winona State University suits me just fine. It identifies with the City of Winona, the State of Minnesota and the university system. Keep up the good work! (name)
