Job Search Tools
The typical job or internship search takes 6 - 9 months. Career Services recommends you start your employment search early, preferably two semesters before you plan to be employed. When searching for a position, it is important to first write down your employment goals. These will help you reduce the amount of time and energy you spend searching. Ask yourself the following questions: What types of skill or knowledge do I offer an employer? What types of positions am I searching for? What companies or organizations interest me? What are possible locations for my future employment? What could my career trajectory look like?
First, prepare the following before starting your search:
- Create a resume, cover letter and thank you notes
- Practice answering interview questions
Use several search methods to locate your first position, including the following:
- Register in Warrior Jobs
- Attend Job Fairs
- Search online job boards in the Job Search Links section below
- Network with employers
Start by visiting the various sections under the Student Resources header. Need assistance? Make an appointment with career staff in the Warrior Success Center!

What is an Internship?
An internship is a practical experience that allows beginners of an occupation or profession to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the classroom. It lets an individual explore career options and become familiar with a particular work environment by performing common tasks in a typical work setting. Individuals are able to establish themselves as professionals in their respective fields while being supervised or mentored by a staff member.
An internship can play a tremendous role in an individual’s career development and has the potential to boost a candidate’s application with an employer. Before beginning a search for an internship, first clarify your goals, assess your individual needs and the requirements of your academic department, consider all factors involved with the internship and identify multiple search strategies.
Career Services, the internship coordinator for your academic department, and your academic advisor can assist you. Please note that as you search for your internship please verify your academic department policies and requirements for internships and dates for registration with the Registrar's Office.
