Research Fellowships (More announcements below offering monies for publication, travel, writing, planning, etc.) +

The International Education Research Foundation offers grants for research on international education systems. They also make awards for promoting the integration of students, scholars and professionals holding non-U.S. academic credentials into the United States, and facilitating the publication and dissemination of the results of the research. They encourage research in particular countries. Due Feb 1st.

Marilyn Yarbrough Dissertation/teaching fellowships in Minority Education are offered at Kenyon College in Ohio. For more information contact: Office of the Associate Provost, Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio 43022.

Dirksen Center The Dirksen Congressional Center is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization in Pekin, Illinois that wishes to promote a better understanding of Congress. Congressional Research awards to fund research on congressional leadership and the U.S. Congress are due Feb 1. Michel Special Projects grants are intended to fund work that advances the public understanding of the federal legislature through research and teaching. These applications can be done at any time.

Frederick and Florence Bauder Endowment for the Support of Physics Teaching funds physics teaching in developing countries. Future Physics Teachers helps three undergraduate physicists fund their education each year. must belong to the American Association of Physics Teachers. Application materials must be received by July 1st or December 1st. See website for other opportunities

Timuel D. Black Jr. Short Term Fellowship in African American Studies offers funds for research related to the Vivian G. Harsh Research Collection of Afro-American History and Literature. Stipends are $2,000 month for one or two months. The purpose of these fellowships is to support scholars, artists, and other researchers who wish to conduct research in member institutions' collections relating to African American and African diasporic culture, history, and politics. Applications are due January 10.

Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Minnesota created Quadrant through a grant from the Mellon Foundation in order to foster interdisciplinary research and publication in four areas: Design, Architecture, and Culture, Environmen; Culture, and Sustainability; Global Cultures and Health and Society.  As part of this initiative the Mellon Foundation funds up to four external fellowships of up to one semester for individuals who participate in a Quadrant group. Deadline is January 15.

National Research Council of the National Academies offers postdoctoral awards and senior research associates awards for the sciences of chemistry,earth, engineering, applied and computer sciences, life and medical sciences, mathematics, planetary science and physics. The Council offers Senior Research awards to conduct independent research in federal labs and affiliated institutions. Senior research awards may be for projects of less than 12 months duration and offer health insurance, travel allowances and relocation benefits. Scientists and engineers may apply for opportunities at three laboratories with one application. Annual stipends are from $38,000 - 65,000. Deadlines are February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1.

Harry Ransom Humanties and Research Centerr at the University of Texas at Austin offers 50 research fellowships annually in all areas of the Humanities They are for one to four months and provide $3,000 per month. Travel stipends are also available. Deadline is February 2.

Institute for Global Enterprise in Indiana at the School of Business Administration at the University of Evansville offers resident fellowships. Contact Robert A. Clark, business@evansville.edu. February 16 deadline.

University of Chicago Library System has research fellowships in Special Collections for researchers living more than 100 miles from Chicago. Awards of $3,000 is available for housing and travel costs. Applications are due February 16.

Creative Minds applications are available for the Residence Program at Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. Fellows work with students to develop plays, songs and poetry. The site gives examples of what the faculty have done while there with their own creative projects. March 2 deadline.

Utopias/Dystopias and Social Transformation is the current theme for Arizona State University Institute for Humanities Research Fellowships. Applications are due March 2.

Grants for research AND writing, publication, planning, travel

National Science Foundation seeks requests for funding to support international research and educational planning visits of from 7-14 days. Visits are to focus on the initial phases of developing and coordinating integrated research and education activities with foreign partners. Deadlines are February 20, May 20 and September 20 annually.
