WSU Athletic Training

The Athletic Training major is nationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). In addition to the academic coursework requirements, students must complete clinical education experiences and fieldwork experiences through required clinical coursework. Students who complete the clinical education and academic requirements of the major are eligible for national certification through the Board of Certification (BOC).

Students interested in majoring in Athletic Training must apply to the program, participate in a competitive selection process and adhere to published retention guidelines.

Congratulation to Christopher Ibach - Elected Chair of the GLATA Student Senate

Congratulations to Christopher Ibach who was elected as Chair of the GLATA Student Senate during the 2013 GLATA Clinical Symposium and Annual Meeting held in Wheeling, IL in March!  Chris immediately took on this role as Chair and is currently busy planning the 2014 GLATA Student Symposium which will be held next March back in Wheeling, IL.   Congrats Chris!

WSU ATEP students repeat as Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association Quiz Bowl Champs - February 2012

Congratulations to Sam Moore, Mairead Griffin, Ben Kroll and Tony LaScotte for winning the 2012 Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association Quiz Bowl, which was held on February 12th in Mankato, MN in conjunction with the MATA Student Workshop.  WSU will now represent Minnesota at the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association Quiz Bowl which will be held in Wheeling, IL in March.!  Great work team and good luck at GLATA!

Christopher Ibach selected as a Minnesota Representative to the GLATA Student Senate - January 2012

Congratulation to Christopher Ibach, a current sophomore in the Athletic Training major, who has been selected by the MATA Executive Committee as the next student senator to GLATA.  The GLATA Student Senate is composed of two student senators from each State within the district and is responsible for the development, organization and implementation of the student symposium which is held in conjunction with the GLATA Annual Meeting each March.  Senators are also key in having the voice of students heard within the district and with the GLATA Executive Committee.  Chris will be replacing Lauren Hawkinson, also a current WSU student, on the senate.  Congratulations Chris! 

Lauren Hawkinson awarded 2011 Entry-Level NATA Research & Education Foundation Scholarship - May 2011

Congratulations to Lauren Hawkinson, a current senior in WSU's Athletic Training major, who was awarded a 2011 Entry-Level NATA Research & Education Foundation Scholarship!  Lauren was selected as one of 45 recipients of this award at the national level.  Lauren was also the recipient of the 2011 Swede-O Scholarship, which was presented by the Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association in May 2011.  CONGRATULATIONS! 

Minnesota Passes Concussion Legislation - May 2011

On Friday, May 20th, 2011 the youth concussion bill was passed on the Senate floor by a vote of 54-10. The bill was then sent over to the House and on Sunday, May 22nd, 2011, passed on the House floor by an overwhelming vote of 125-4! The bill was signed into law by Governor Dayton on Friday May 27th, 2011. The Youth Sports Section is effective September 1st, 2011. The other sections are effective for the 2011-12 school year.  Read the full legislation
