Exercise & Rehabilitative Sciences Majors
Students may become certified through American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as a health fitness instructor, a certified personal trainer, or a certified strength and condition specialist. Students may work with unique populations or may specialize in strength training, personal training, or strength and conditioning for athletes.

Students learn how to design and administer appropriate strength, power, flexibility, agility, and cardiorespiratory programs based on clients’ goals, needs and abilities.
Students learn how to administer health appraisals, assess client needs, design and administer appropriate programs such as smoking cessation, blood pressure, weight control, and nutrition counseling.
Graduates work in corporate facilities, fitness centers, hospital wellness programs, community centers, or athletic programs.
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation promotes health, wellness, and prevention of heart and lung disease.

Courses examine electrocardiography, clinical exercise in testing and prescription, cardiopulmonary risk prevention, and more.
Curriculum is structured around the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) knowledge, skills and ability learner outcomes; students are encourages to sit for the ACSM (Clinical Exercise Specialist) certification exam after graduation.
Graduates work in medical centers with patients who are suffering from heart, pulmonary, and other life diseases, and use a therapeutic program of exercise, risk factor reduction, behavioral modification, and education.
Students prepare for graduate study in physical therapy, occupational therapy, biomechanics, exercise physiology, kinesiology, motor learning, physician’s assistant, or chiropractic medicine.
Each student must develop an appropriate research project, perform data collection, and present the results as a poster presentation, journal article, or research paper.
