Welcome to Winona State University!

Directions for Incoming Freshman, Fall 2013:

Dear New WSU Warrior,

The faculty and staff of Winona State University share a commitment to your success in and out of the classroom. Your personal and professional development is the cornerstone of a partnership that will last during your years here and beyond.

As you know, alcohol is a significant issue in the lives of students in both high school and college.  Whether you choose to abstain from alcohol entirely or not, it is an influence in our lives and in the lives of our family and friends.

WSU has joined with many top schools in the country in adopting the online course, AlcoholEdu for College. This is not an over-simplified lecture about the use of alcohol. Rather, it is a thoughtful and educational program for adults committed to considering their life choices.

AlcoholEdu® for College – is an online, non-opinionated alcohol prevention program. This course uses research-based approaches to educate students about alcohol and its effects. Whether you drink or not, AlcoholEdu® for College will help you make well-informed decisions about alcohol and better manage drinking behavior that may occur around you. The University cares for your health and safety. We promote responsible decision making by our students, so all incoming freshmen are strongly encouraged to complete AlcoholEDU.

Winona State University is deeply committed to the health, welfare, and ultimate success and happiness of all members of our community. We hope that you find the course helpful and instructive on this important journey.

The course consists of two parts:

  • The first part of the course takes about 2.5 hours to complete and we recommend that you take it in multiple sittings.
  • This section ends with an exam and survey. You may begin this anytime.
  • After you have been on campus for a few weeks, you will receive an email asking you to complete the second section of the course. This section will take about 15 minutes.
