The administration received these notifications.

2. Appointments to committees (report)

Senate approved Committee on Committees' recommendations of faculty to serve on the following Fac Assn and All-University committees:

All-University Technology Committee - Lee Gray (Ed. Admin)

Social Committee (IFO) - Cindy Killion (Mass Comm)

Marketing Department's alternate representative to A2C2 - Bill Murphy

IRB (human subjects) Committee- Dan Rand

The administration acknowledged these Senate recommendations.

3. Presentations to Senate: Science Building and residence hall/Kryzsko repairs (invitation)

Senators agreed to invite Dean Jannik to make a presentation about the Science Building.

The administration agreed to the invitation, but stated that Nov. 19 is not an appropriate date. D. Bratt will call Dean Jannik to work out an appropriate Senate date.

Due to time constraints, the residence hall issue was postponed at the last Senate meeting. The administration is re-invited to the next Senate meeting to discuss the Residence Hall/Kryzsko repairs issue.

The administration agreed to the re-invitation, however Nov. 19 is not a good date. Cal Winbush and John Ferden will be contacted for a different Senate date.

4. Honors Program referral (report)

The Senate referred to A2C2 a recommendation from the Honors Council that the University Honors program be discontinued. The committee will report its recommendation at the next Senate meeting.

The administration received this information.

Comments:

1. Perhaps it should be banked!...since it would be easier to bring it back in the future.

2. Perhaps MnSCU official policy should be consulted to see what term is used. Banking versus Suspended is being considered.

3. Safest route might be to just bank it, without any notification to MnSCU. Suspending the Honors program would only raise doubts from MnSCU.

5. Negotiations questions

Senate approved a request from the IFO Negotiating Team, addressed to all Faculty Associations, to ask the following questions:

(a) What can the local campus administration do (or, stronger form, what will the local administration do) to ensure that its representative on the MnSCU negotiating team attend and remain for the duration of negotiation sessions?

(b) Did Chris Dale ask campus VPs whether in their opinion it would be valuable to increase the flexibility of summer session scheduling? and

(c) Is it in fact the local administration's opinion that there would be no value in doing so?

Administration Comments:

1. Arranged to have Dean Ken Gorman act as sub for Dean Tim Gasper.

2. An e-mail was sent to all Presidents this past summer...but no responses. VP's discussed this issue at a retreat and some felt this flexibility might be useful. In a perfect world, it would be nice to have this flexibility for summer session scheduling.

6. Hazing policy (administrative addition)

A MnSCU initiative on "Hazing Policy" (for students) was presented. Cal Winbush presented WSU's drafted policy on this issue. This policy has been approved by the Student Senate. The administration wouldn't mind faculty feedback on this policy.

7. Rochester computers (administrative addition)

[Item postponed by the administration]

7. Spring Class Schedule (IFO addition)

The administration was questioned why the decision to NOT print a regular paper version of the Spring Class Schedule booklet was not informed at a Meet and Confer meeting with the IFO. The lack of a paper version would make advising difficult, especially for un-declared students. This non-notification of this issue at a Meet and Confer is a violation of the notification clause affecting terms and conditions of employment. Not printing the schedule DOES change the conditions of our employment and it is a violation of PELRA by not bringing the subject to Meet and Confer.

Administration Comments:

1. Did not bring to Meet and Confer since it was needed quickly and was a logistic decision at the time.

2. Perhaps this does affect the terms and conditions of employment.

3. The administration agreed the non-mentioning of this decision (at a Meet and Confer) should not happen again!

4. Making better and visible links would improve the web-version of the Class schedule.

8. VP-Richardson's last slide on "Strategic Options" (IFO addition)

The administration was asked to provide a written list of the Strategic Options mentioned for the MnSCU Allocation Model presentation at the Oct. 29 Senate meeting.

The administration agreed to provide such a list to Faculty Senate.
