- Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan is a service that can request books and articles to be delivered from other libraries if Winona
State University Library does not own the book or have electronic or print access to the article.
- Circulation
Circulation is responsible for managing the process of checking materials in and out of the library and shelving
materials.
- Reserves
Reserve materials are items that WSU instructors have asked the Library to make available for short-term loan to
students in their classes. Most reserve items are for in-library use only and have a two hour check-out period. Videos
and DVDs have a 4 hour check out period unless otherwise requested.

Videos can be scheduled for in-class use.
- Distance Services
The Winona State University Library provides library services to WSU students who attend our courses taught at a
distance from Winona or Rochester.
- Information Gallery
The IG offers students access to the Internet, scanners, word processing and data
manipulation programs, and much more.
- Reference
The Reference Desk is typically staffed by librarians who can assist you with your research questions, offer advice on how to get started and which resources to use.
- Library Liaisons
Each academic department has a librarian liaison who can provide library instruction for faculty and students, advanced research assistance, collection development, and can answer library-related questions.
- Library Instruction
In a library instruction session, the library liaison will teach students how to use the library resources in order to
successfully complete the papaers or other research projects. The instruction typically occurs in the library, however, the librarian can visit the site of the class. Also, the librarians are willing to help design library assignments with
the facutly member in order to utilize the library's resources and services most effectively.
- Advanced Research Assistance
The liaison will be a resource for both faculty and students in the department needing assistance finding library
resources. While straightforward questions can be handled at the Reference Desk, the liaison can act as guide for advanced
reference needs. Both students and faculty can make appointments with the department's liaison to explore indepth
projects.
- Collection Development
The Liaison can help your department build and manage its book collection, as well as journal
subscriptions, in order to support the department's curricula.
- Create Course Pages
The department liaison can create a Web page for your course. That page can include the text of the library
assignment, as well as resources, both in paper and electronic, that will be useful for the course. The
system that we use for course pages even allows usage statistics to see how heavily the resources are being used.
(NOTE: We do not keep statistics by student.)
- Department Communication
Your department's liaison will be in contact with the faculty and staff in the department each year. The liaison can
notify your faculty about new databases or problems discovered with current databases. The liaison can send out book
announcements from publishers and book dealers. The liaison may also notify faculty about upcoming events, such as
athenaeum presentations.
- Acquisitions
Acquisitions orders and receives new materials for the Library.
- Archives
The Library maintains the Archives for the entire University.
