"ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to promote excellence in choral music. ACDA is a group of choral professionals whose joy comes from the performance, composition, publishing, research, and teaching the fine art of choral music. From the smallest towns to the largest cities across America, we strive to elevate the role of choral music and the way it touches our society. We inspire and lead over a million singers nation-wide, combining individual voices into an instrument of incomparable beauty."
As a student chapter, we focus on improving choral music as an art. We sponsor the choral activities at Winona State and arrange for guest artists to perform concerts on campus. The annual Messiah Sing-In is one of the many events the ACDA Student Chapter is involved in. We have also started the ACDA Laboratory Chorus to give students the chance to practice conducting a group and sing a variety of choral repertoire.
Students from all majors and minors are welcome to be a part of the ACDA Student Chapter. It is not necessary to be a future choral director to participate in the activities and find them enjoyable. We hold meetings on Mondays at 1:30 in the Performing Arts Center Conference Room. You may get more information about the group by checking the music department office or speaking with the ACDA Student Chapter faculty advisor or any of the officers.
