Chapter Advisors:

The collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education is an essential organization for all students aspiring to a career in music education. As a member of the Winona State University NAfME collegiate chapter, the music education student has the opportunity to develop his or her teaching skills and understanding of the music teaching profession. The chapter regularly attends state music educators’ conferences and collegiate chapter state retreats. Each year, the chapter prepares and oversees the WSU display at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Annual Mid-Winter Clinic as well as attends the clinic sessions and concerts. Student members receive the Music Educators Journal and Teaching Music along with discounts on NAfME publications and conference registrations from the national organization.

The WSU Collegiate NAfME chapter acts as a service organization to help local music programs in Winona and sponsors semi-annual workshops for current and prospective music teachers in the area. As a fundraiser, the chapter hosts a recital each year that highlights the talent of the WSU music department faculty.

Students from all music degree programs—both majors and minors—are welcome to become a part of the NAfME collegiate chapter. It is not necessary to be a future music educator to find the activities valuable as well as stimulating and enjoyable. Students can find information about meetings and membership on the bulletin board across from the choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms in the Performing Arts Center, visit the music department office, or contact the NAfME chapter faculty advisors.
