Current plans set aside all day Wednesday August 6, 2008 for field
trips. If Wednesday happens to be a rain day, activities scheduled
for Thursday may be exchanged with those of Wednesday's schedule,
depending on the weather forecast.Check back here for further Field
Trip details, as they become available.
All off-campus bussed tours require a signed statement, prior to
boarding a bus, that releases WSU from off-campus liability. A
copy of this release statement can be viewed here.
For all field trips, wear appropriate clothing and carry anything you
anticipate that you may need while on the field trip. Be aware
that there are mosquitoes, snakes, and
ticks,
a few of which can transmit Borrelia burgdorferi. Use
tick-bite avoidance techniques when visiting known tick areas. Spraying
insect repellant containing DEET onto exposed skin can help. Wearing
long clothing can protect the skin. Clothing, children, and pets should
be examined for ticks. Ticks can be removed gently with tweezers and
saved in a jar for later identification. Bathing the skin and scalp, and
washing clothing upon returning from the field might prevent the bite
and transmission of the disease.
August temperature are usually in the 80s to 90s with high relative
humidity. Most people like to carry a canteen or water bottle into
the field. Field Box Lunches will be loaded onto the trip bus, to
be distributed at lunch time.
If you arrange your own field trip or arrange for your own
transportation while intending to join up with an existing field-trip
group, please note that some sites must limit group sizes and that the NAPC-scheduled group will have priority. It is OK to signup for a
field trip, provide your own transportation, and join your group.
If you are not signed up for a field trip, remember to pick up your
Field Box Lunch from the NAPC Reception Desk.!.
