Field Trip Information Summary

Prairie Moon Nursery
Brief description of site and highlights of site (habitat, flora, fauna): Ridge and Valley sites
  • The first part of the tour will be a tour of our newly constructed seed conditioning and seed storage area. Brief demonstration of seed cleaning.
  • We
will then drive down into the valley and tour our plant production gardens and see a few diverse plantings.
  • Opportunity to see some of the rare species listed in our catalog
Walking distance, rigor, potential hazards:
  • Round trip walking distance from bus: 1/4 to 1 mile. You can opt not to walk
through the fields and instead only go through the nearby gardens.

  •  Rigor of field trip:
Moderate, but you can hike to the top of the Goat Prairies if you want to
really get a workout and enjoy the view.

  • Potential hazards at site: Yes, but mostly you have to watch for Deer Ticks which can carry Lyme Disease.


Area of site (approximate acreage): 50+ acres
Duration of field trip: 2 - 3 hours
Access for charter bus loading/unloading/parking: No problem
Availability of drinking water, rest rooms, shade: All this and a nice swimming pond.  Swimwear required during tours!

Distance from Winona, MN: 12 miles
