Business Services

In the business services industry, your employees can be your greatest strategic advantage and the customer’s experience is the competitive battleground. How well does your company meet your customers’ needs? How smoothly does your staff solve problems? In order to increase your market share, your company must “wow” the customer in all of its interactions. With customized training delivered on-site, online or on campus, your employees can master the skills required to keep your company ahead of the competition.

It’s not easy to find the right worker for a job. When employees lack certain skills, companies suffer. Winona State University has a variety of experts who possess business experience that can help you assess and identify your employee skills gaps and then remedy those gaps though customized training. Effective training can turn that good employee into a great asset (‘good to great’ concept). The effectiveness of training can be measured in many ways

  • Progress toward company goals
  • Customer satisfaction
  • Productivity increases
  • Quality increases
Another measure that is often overlooked is employee satisfaction and retention. When you help develop your workers’ skills, it shows a commitment to them and their careers. They, in turn, are more likely to make a commitment to your business. Area businesses that have benefited from WSU curriculum for business includes employees from banking, finance, education, electric and gas utilities, nonprofits, government, religious, insurance, dental, retail, and service industries.
Winona State University and Red Wing Shoe Company completed a four-year $255,563 Minnesota Job Skills Partnership grant project in 2004. Even though the grant project switched gears half-way through the program, WSU recognized the “needs of the customer” which in turn collaborated with Rochester Community & Technical College to develop a CD-ROM training curriculum that will allow Red Wing Shoe Company to remain vital to the economy of Red Wing and Minnesota. This ability to “change and become flexible to the needs of the customer” led to a successful partnership between business and education that benefited employees and industry.
