Manufacturing

Your company needs employees who can help it evolve and keep pace with the high-tech manufacturing industry’s changing demands. Winona State University has a network of quality faculty and industry experts who can help you identify customized training solutions to ensure that your company stays productive and competitive. The high-tech manufacturing industry is characterized by rapid innovation and changing demands. Without highly skilled employees, your company risks falling behind in a competitive race. You’re smart to make sure you help your staff maintain and develop their skills in order for your company to thrive.

In 2002, Winona State University and Watlow Controls/PlastiCert, Inc. received a $216,318 grant from Minnesota Jobs Skills Partnership to develop and deliver a 3-year “Leadership in Lean Manufacturing” training program for approximately 300 employees. This project addresses some very specific needs identified by both companies to make the transformation to lean manufacturing practices and philosophy.

In 2005, WSU, Saint Paul College, and UW-Stout have teamed together to offer a “Lean/Flow Certificate Program,” consisting of a 5-day certification course schedule that can be offered over a one-week period, several weeks, or evenings according to your needs. The certification approach gives both the quickest impact on the bottom line and greatest long-term payoff through increased capacity. Certification allows you to groom key individuals in your organization as in-house Lean/Flow experts.

Area businesses that have benefited from WSU courses include :

Watlow Controls, PlastiCert Inc., Red Wing Shoe Company, Fastenal, Northern Engraving, Miken Sports, Miller Felpax, ICI Fiberite & Polymer Composites, Inc.
