The legislature of the state of Minnesota has provided a way for older adults to continue their lifelong learning at many Minnesota Colleges and Universities. Any Minnesota resident 62 years of age or older may now take courses at reduced tuition rates or even for no cost at all. The Outreach and Continuing Education Department administers this program and also advises the older students.
Admission procedures begin with filling out a form and paying a one-time-only admission fee. Then, if there is space available in a class, a senior citizen may enroll in that class and pay a reduced tuition rate for the credit. Credit earned can be used toward a degree or transferred to other institutions.
However, if an eligible person wishes for just the experience of the class and not the credit, then he or she signs up for "audit" and pays nothing.
