Dr. Barbara Oertel

Director, Advising & Retention

Barbara is a graduate of Winona State (B.T., 1982; M.A., 1985) and received her Ed.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Minnesota in 2001.  She has been employed at the University since 1984.  As Director of Advising and Retention, Barbara is responsible for the administration of programs such as New Student Orientation, tutoring services, entrance assessment, and advising for undeclared students, PSEO students, and A.A. degree students. 

Barbara recently completed her dissertation after conducting research on curricular learning communities in higher education.  Her thesis, Identifying the Essential Characteristics of Curricular Learning Communities in Higher Education:  A Delphi Study, is available on-line.
