Transfer Student Welcome Week
Welcome to Winona State University-- we are glad you’re here!
Starting at a new college is exciting and challenging, so we have created Welcome Week events to help you navigate the process and meet other new students. Transfer student Welcome Week in 2016 will be Aug. 17-21.
Please contact Darcie Mueller at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions about Welcome Week or related events.
Meet Your Leaders
|My name is Ari Mwatela, and I transferred from Rochester Community and Technical College with an Individualized Studies Associates degree. I also happen to be an International student and was born and raised in Nairobi Kenya. I came to the United States when I was 19 years old, and I’m going on 25 now, graduating this Fall with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, and an accompanied minor in Communication Studies.
I am so excited to meet you all during Welcome Week, and I hope that my team and I can make this experience memorable for you, just like it was for me. That week afforded me the opportunity to build lasting friendships and fall in love with Winona, which has been a tremendous help in pushing through to complete my studies here at Winona State. I can only wish the same for you. GO WARRIORS!
|My name is Briana Bruske, but most people call me Bri. I am majoring in ACS Chemistry Teaching and will graduate in Spring 2017. I transferred to WSU my Junior year of college from Rochester Community and Technical College in Rochester, MN.
This will be my third year at WSU, and I am so happy that I decided to transfer here when I did! I love the community and the surrounding environment in general. I'm not someone to sit around and do nothing for too long, so I appreciate that there is always something to do given the lakes, bluffs, campus and community activities, and variety of local restaurants and entertainment. My transfer experience was good, but rough at times. It took a lot of initiative on my part to get out of my comfort zone and find where I fit in, and how I could make a difference in students' lives around me. I am a FOCUS student missionary, and very involved in the Winona Newman Center. I also have connections in other campus ministries and clubs.
I look forward to being an orientation leader, and helping make the transition to life at WSU a positive experience for the incoming transfer students! I want all of the students I come in contact with to know they never have to feel alone, and that they belong and have a purpose on this campus. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will do all that I can to answer them. I look forward to meeting the students during orientation week.
|Hey team! My name is David Rorman, and I’m a Senior majoring in Movement Science. My hometown is Anoka, Minnesota, and I transferred to Winona State in 2014. I love being with friends and family, and spending time outside, especially to play tennis.
I honestly look forward to meeting and getting to know all of you. College is a great opportunity to branch out and grow, and we’ll work together to make this an awesome experience. I’m always here to help and be a friend.
Olivia Volkman Johnson
Hello! I am a senior here at WSU majoring in Communication Studies with a minor in Applied and Professional Writing. I am originally from Minneapolis, MN and went to high school in Richfield, MN. Before WSU, I attended the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Augsburg College.
I really enjoy working and communicating with others and hope to become a grant writer for a non-profit organization in the Twin Cities. As someone who has had to acclimate to a new school environment 3 times, I hope that I will be a reassuring guide for all of you here at WSU!
