Looking for an advisor?
All new incoming students who have not declared a major are assigned their orientation instructor for advising. If you are a new student and are not enrolled in orientation, please see someone in Advising.
Students pursuing an A.A. degree and PSEO students also meet with advisors in the Advising office.
Interested in study tips?
The staff in Advising can help you with general study skills, time management, note taking, and test taking strategies.
There is a study lab located in Phelps 125 with internet connections and quiet study spaces.
Need to take a placement test?
Incoming students with no college credit in English and/or math wil be placed in their initial English or math class based on their ACT sub scores. Students who are not satisfied with their placement can take the Accuplacer exams. Please enquire in Advising if you would like to take the Accuplacer placement test.
Need some assistance with your classes?
The Advising office provides tutoring services through the Academic Assistance Center, Student Support Services. Register for tutoring services in Howell 133.
The Academic Assistance Center is located in the Library, room 206. Peer tutors are available to assist you in many subject areas as well as test taking strategies and time management. Check at http://www.winona.edu/tutoring for tutors’ schedules.
Student Support Services is located in Howell 133. Students who are first generation college students, meet financial requirements or have a disability are eligible for tutoring and advising in SSS.
Interested in services for students with disabilities?
The Disability Resource Center is located in Howell 136. Students with a documented disability may be eligible for accommodations.
Are you a new student at WSU?
New Student Orientation is a program designed to familiarize first year students with WSU and college life. Students participate in activities the last week in August and then earn one credit meeting with an instructor once per week throughout the first semester.
Worried about academic standards?
The Advising office is responsible for monitoring and evaluating students who are placed on academic warning and suspension. See us if you have questions or concerns about your academic status.
