New Student Orientation
At Winona State University, we believe that a good orientation experience is very important for every new student. Virtually all of our new fall students participate in our orientation program, which we have expanded and enhanced every year for several years. We offer the orientation program as a credit course--by participating in orientation, you will earn one academic credit which may be applied to your degree at WSU.
Please plan to be here for orientation activities! As a participant in our orientation program, you will be placed in a group of twenty-five to thirty students, often with the same or similar major interests, led by a faculty member and a returning WSU student. You will participate in social and learning activities designed to orient you to the WSU campus and community. When regular fall semester courses begin we believe that you will truly feel that you are a part of Winona State University. Your orientation group will continue to meet once a week through the fall semester.
Orientation 100 is a one-credit course. The orientation course will count as part of your fall semester credit load. Because full-time students (12-18 credits) are charged a flat tuition rate, the orientation course will not, in most cases, affect your tuition bill. However the orientation course does carry an additional $ 25.00 course fee which covers some of the expenses associated with the orientation activities. The course fee will appear on your fall semester bill.
Registration for orientation will take place during your individual advising and registration session during April or June New Student Registration. You will receive a detailed orientation schedule at Registration. More information will be mailed to you in August prior to orientation. If you have any questions regarding New Student Orientation, call the Advising and Retention Office at 457-5600.
