Transfer Student Welcome Week

Welcome to Winona State University-- we are glad you’re here!

Starting at a new college is exciting and challenging, so we have created Welcome Week events to help you navigate the process and meet other new students. Transfer student Welcome Week in 2017 will be Aug. 16-20.

Join us for Welcome Week in Pasteur 133 at 9am on Wednesday, August 16.

Meet Your Leaders

Karissa Brand

Hello friends! My name is Karissa Brand, and I’m a senior here at Winona State! I’m currently majoring in Human Resources and Business Administration, with minors in Marketing and Management. My hometown is Mason City, Iowa and I transferred here after graduating with my Associate degree in Business from NIACC (North Iowa Area Community College).

I’m pretty involved here on campus! I’m a member of a national sorority and the Director of Public Relations for Panhellenic. I’m an Ambassador (fancy name for tour guide), a member of UPAC and SHRM, and on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the College of Business. If you have any questions about how to get involved on campus, I’m your girl!

In my free time, I work at one or two jobs, play around on Pinterest, or when it’s nice I love walking around the lake. I want to make this experience the best it can be for everyone involved, so if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask! I was exactly where you are last year!

Job Nyangacha

Hello! My name is Job Nyangacha, and I am a senior majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Child Advocacy Studies. I am from Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Before transferring to Winona State, I earned an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts from Minneapolis Community and Technical College. I have been at WSU since Fall of 2014. Some of the things that I have been involved in since coming to Winona include being a student leader for Chi Alpha, working at a Kids Center, and being a Resident Assistant in Lourdes Hall.

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you a bit more! More than anything, I want to be not only a resource but a friend you can go to for advice. I won't claim to know all of the answers, but hopefully I can point you in the right direction for all of your questions and concerns.

Hello! My name is Caroline, but I go by Carrie. I am a junior, majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Communication Arts and Literature. I am from Oshkosh, WI. Before Winona, I went to Western Technical College in La Crosse, WI. Winona State has many outdoor activities: hiking, kayaking, and rock climbing, so there is never a dull moment!

I am excited to meet you during Welcome Week. College is the time to find lifelong friends, and to have experiences that will last a lifetime. I hope I can make your transition here at Winona smooth and to help you feel at home.
