Goals of the WSU Long Range Plan

The goal of the Winona State University Long Range Plan is to create a vision for the future. The Plan provides a general framework rather than outline specific guidelines and quantitative design studies related to the particular projects envisioned.

The Plan is designed to be comprehensive. To that end, The Plan discusses not only incoming and graduating students, faculty and staff, curriculum, and facilities and space, but also issues related to student development, relationship with surrounding communities, and national reputation.

Long range planning is not a static process. The creation of this plan does not constitute the completion of the project, but instead, the beginning. The planning process at Winona State is an on-going, continuous project, as external exigencies will continue to provide both opportunities and constraints to the goals and visions outlined here.

Following this line of reasoning, the Winona State University Long Range Plan is written to serve as a guide rather than a set of fixed determinations. The Long Range Plan should be considered advisory rather than legislative-- a resource to aid in leadership and decision making. Taking The Plan out of this context constitutes a misinterpretation.

The Long Range Plan is a result of participation from the entire Winona State University Community. Public discussion and debate on the report are welcome and seen as a necessary part of the planning process. To that end, we welcome comments and dialogue with the various constituencies within Winona State and encourage further participation in the planning process.

Consideration has been given to the audience of the Long Range Plan. In order to eliminate the necessity of lengthy background discussions, the plan is written with the assumed audience being those within the Winona State University community.

Finally, inextricably linked with the long range vision for the future is the creation of a desired image for Winona State. While we can implement plans to make our vision reality, this vision must be communicated to the various constituencies of Winona State.

The long range plan has been approved by the administration, faculty, and service sectors of the Winona State. Representatives from all constituencies have been active on the Long Range Planning Committee.
