Long Range Planning And Assessment Committee
Winona State University's Quality Enhancement Matrix
The Winona State University Task Force on Outcomes Assessment worked throughout the 1989-1990 year. Starting with the premise that outcomes were inextricably linked with both resources and context, the task force created a matrix which describes general goals for Winona State University on three different levels - the student level, program level and the university level.
Outcomes:
Students: Students will have experienced the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and study in depth of an educated person.
Program: Each area of study in depth should have specific goals and objectives.
University: The university should be able to provide evidence of success in achievement of its goals and objectives.
Resources:
Students: Students should have access to the faculty, equipment, facilities, and opportunities necessary.
Program: Faculty should have the time and resources available to keep abreast of their disciplines.
University: The university should have sufficient resources to fulfill its goal and objectives.
Context:
Students: The physical, social, and psychological climate should be one that encourages learning and the formation of learning communities.
Program: There should be evidence that each program is integrated internally (in relation to departmental collegiality) and externally (with good fit between the program and the university as a whole).
University: The university should be an integral part of its service region.
