Alumni Society Board

The volunteer board member's job is to be a public advocate of the University.  The WSU Alumni Society Board is comprised of between 15 - 19 voting members, all alumni volunteers, representing a variety of eras, occupations and economic backgrounds. They serve one central mission: the support of quality public higher education through Winona State University. As Alumni Society Board members, they are part of the Winona State University public relations and development team. Their experience, judgment and special expertise strengthen Winona State and serves to enhance the relationship between the University and its constituents.

Committees

Executive Committee: 
Members are officers of the Alumni Society Board. The committee is responsible for all Alumni Society programming, planning, budgeting and information dissemination. Members meet monthly on the WSU campus and coordinate all aspects of Society administration with the WSU Alumni staff.

Nominating Committee:
Members are appointed to serve annually and will secure new member nominations to either recommend new Board members, or to obtain replacement of interim members to fill existing vacancies. Reports to the Board are offered as requested.

Scholarship Committee:
Members are appointed annually.This is a major alumni committee which directly supports the students and faculty through alumni-generated scholarships.The committee is responsible for selecting recipients based on the applicants’ merits, academic excellence, honors and achievements, and extracurricular activities.The applicant must be a child, grandchild, brother, sister or ward of a WSU graduate and an entering freshman. Applicants are secured and processed with the cooperation of the Financial Aid and Admissions offices.

Distinguished Service Award Committee:
This committee consists of the Alumni Society President or appointed representative and four appointed alumni (a minimum of two who are not Board members.) Each committee member serves a two-year term with two new members appointed in the fall. The Alumni Director will serve as ex-officio member. The committee shall be responsible for securing nominations for consideration and for making final recommendations to the Board on the continuation and improvement of the Award program.

Program Committee:
Members are appointed to serve annually and are responsible for investigating new alumni programs and ideas to be used to strengthen WSU’s Alumni Society, and to assist in securing volunteers to support functions such as Spring Reunion, Homecoming, recruitment efforts, and phonathons. This committee reports to the Board Committee Members and Executive Committee.

House Committee:
Members are appointed annually with the President and Treasurer as permanent members.This committee is responsible for identifying long and short term goals as they apply to the operation and maintenance of the Alumni House.All building policies and procedures must come before this committee. The Director of Alumni Relations will serve as ex-officio member of this committee.
