    Art Department Activies

    1. On Thursday September 18, we were delighted to hold the unveiling of two new donations by Mo and Dorothy Weber of paintings by Mo's father Max Weber.  Max Weber was an important American Moderist who studied in Paris with Matisse, Picasso, and others and brought Cubism to America, mixing it with a passion for the fast-paced changes of urban life in the early 20th century.  Later in life, he transcended his idebtednes and developed a powerfully original style of expressive painting.  It is from this later period that these two works come.

The paintings were on view at the Weber Gallery upstairs in Watkins through homecoming weekend.  In the coming weeks, we expect them to be permanently installed elsewhere on campus for all faculty, staff, students, and visitors to enjoy and study in perpetuity.

Thanks to the WSU Foundation, the WSU advancement office, Professor Chun Lok Mah and his Graphic Design students, Professor Mary Coughlan, Professor Donald Schmidlapp, Graphic Design Intern Michelle Dunkin, as well as Kristin Olson and Jason Smith who were just passing by, and anyone else overlooked here (apologies).

But especially thanks to Mo & Dorothy Weber for their longstanding and continued generosity to the department and university.

    2. Please visit the Watkins gallery to view sculptures by Molly Moran. Details under the "Gallery" section of this website.  There has been a lot of conversation among the students and faculty about this exhibition -- don't miss it.

    3.  Select Senior Show applications are due to the department office Wednesday Oct 1.  Work must be placed in the 3-D design room by 4:00 pm on Thursday Oct 2.
