Gesel Mason is Co-founder and Artistic Director for Mason/Rhynes Productions, and Choreographer and Performer for Gesel Mason Performance Projects. Ms. Mason has performed with Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, toured Germany with the Repertory Dance Theatre of Utah, and performed for DanceAfrica America as a member of Umoja, directed by Chuck Davis. She taught and performed in Poland, in 1995 with the Silesian Dance Theatre and again in 1999 with Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, where she worked for four seasons as Performer, Project Director, and Artistic Director/Founder of Teen Exchange. Ms. Mason’s solo project, NO BOUNDARIES: Dancing the Visions of Contemporary Black Choreographers, includes the work of Donald McKayle, Bebe Miller, David Rousseve, Andrea Woods, and Jawole Willa Jo Zollar. She has also worked with Alison Chase, Sardono Kusumo, Victoria Marks, Susan Marshall, Peter Pucci, and Doug Varone. Most recently she worked with Ralph Lemon in "Come Home Charley Patton", the final installment of his Geography trilogy.

She was selected as artist in residence for Texas Women’s University, University of MD/Baltimore County, University of Memphis, St. Mary’s Episcopal School, and Virginia Commonwealth University. Ms. Mason received the Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award in 2001and 2004, the Arts Council of Montgomery County Artist Fellowship in 1999 and 2005 and was selected Emerging Choreographer by the Bates Dance Festival in 2000. University of Maryland, Dallas Black Dance Theater and Sandra Organ Dance Company have commissioned Ms. Mason’s award winning choreography, among others, and her work has been presented by the Fort Wayne Performing Arts Center, Walker Arts Center in Minneapolis, Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Clarice Smith Center for the Performing Arts, the Kennedy Center, and the International Association of Blacks in Dance.
