Student Athlete Services
Welcome to Winona State University Student-Athlete Services Program. Winona State University is a dynamic learning community that provides rigorous, high quality baccalaureate educational opportunities to students. The WSU Athletic Department enhances the University’s mission by attracting outstanding student-athletes that strive for academic as well as athletic excellence. Student-Athlete Services guides the student-athlete into obtaining a balance of academic and athletic success while traveling the path to graduation.
Student Athlete Services is designed around the Warrior Student-Athlete Success (WSAS) Triangle. The WSAS triangle incorporates Academic Advising, Warrior Life Skills, and Warrior Study Tables. These three components will provide great educational opportunities for Winona State student-athletes to succeed in all dimensions of their lives.
Academic Advising – The goal of Academic advising is to Guide incoming freshman through the registration process and ultimately end with the student-athlete walking across the stage on his or her graduation day. Between these two experiences, academic advising develops opportunities for student-athletes to meet with an academic advisor who helps monitor grades, teaches study skills, assist in establishing academic assistance if needed, and acts as a primary advocate for the holistic development/success of the student athlete.
Warrior Life Skills – Many experiences will face the graduates of Winona State University. To help student-athletes meet these challenges head - on, WSU Student Athlete Services provide students with the life skills insight needed to overcome these challenges successfully. Life skills assist in bridging the gap between academics and athletics by teaching student-athletes the skills they need to succeed in life while providing support to help student-athletes achieve their first job.
Warrior Study Tables – Study tables are structured study sessions that provide academic support by monitoring and developing the student-athlete into becoming a self-guided learner.
The incorporation of these three programs enables WSU student-athletes to excel in the classroom and in competition. The success of WSU student athletes is already evident by our student-athlete average GPA of 3.04 and the achievement of winning the 05-06 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.
To our prospective student-athletes and parents, Student Athlete Services looks forward to working with you and helping you achieve all of your academic goals. To our current student-athletes, we encourage you to take advantage of the educational services and opportunities provided. Finally, to our alumni and fans, our student-athletes are some of the finest men and women in the Midwest and we all are proud to call ourselves Warriors!
