Warriors Capture Third Straight Region Title

Flowers In Region Title Game WINONA, MN -- Jonte Flowers and Winona State University put on quite a display in defeating Northern State University 68-60 for the NCAA Division II North Central Region championship that was held in McCown Gymnasium.

Flowers, named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, came up with 33 points in leading the Warriors to their third straight region title and third consecutive berth in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament.

The No. 3-ranked Warriors will face Grand Valley State University, MI, which shares the No. 1 ranking in Division II, in the third quarterfinal game of the opening round to the Elite Eight. Tip-off for that contest at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, MA is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EDT.

Flowers finished with a game-high 33 points, hitting on 10-of-22 shots from the field and 9-of-10 attempts from the free throw line. Free throws by Flowers held the No. 5-ranked NSU Wolves in check down the stretch, as he made five-of-six and the Warriors netted six-of-eight in the final 48 seconds of the game.

For the contest WSU converted on 19-of-25 charity shots.

John Smith, who was also named to the All-Tournament team, recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, blocking two shots and coming up with one assist.

 Northern State's Kevin Ratzsch, who was named to the All-Tournament team, joined up with teammate Levi Hamilton to score 17 points each.

The Warriors now have a 29-game winning streak and have posted a 95-5 record in their last 100 games.
