Winona State Tabbed To Place 2nd

Heidi Woerle ST. PAUL, MN -- Defending regular-season champion Winona State University has been picked to place second in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference final standings, according to a poll of the league coaches.

The Warriors picked up four first-place votes and totaled 155 points, while the NSIC's newest member Minnesota State University, Mankato garnered nine-first place votes and totaled a league-high 194 points.

WSU, senior, defender, Heidi Woerle was picked the league's preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Woerle earned NSCAA/adidas First Team All-Central Region honors along with NSIC First-Team honors a year ago.

Aside from winning the NSIC regular-season championship the Warriors also grabbed a berth and hosted the first round of the NCAA region tournament action.

Last season WSU went 8-1 in league play and was 16-3-2 overall.
