Athletic Eligibility Requirements
What Prospective Student Athletes Must Do If you wish to be considered for intercollegiate athletics, as a high school student, you must carry a 2.0 grade point average in 13 college prep courses and receive certification from the NCAA Clearinghouse. Consult your guidance counselor to complete Clearinghouse requirements. In college, be prepared to carry a minimum of 12 hours per semester and maintain a 2.0 GPA. You must complete SAT or ACT exams with minimum required scores. Here are a few tips from WSU coaches: Contact the coach of the sport you are interested in. Complete the athletic questionnaire, send a video, team rosters, resume and copy of unofficial transcripts and SAT or ACT scores. The athletic questionnaire is available in this website. Play in sanctioned off-season leagues for additional exposure. If you are not being recruited for sports, but are enrolled at WSU and would like to try out for a varsity team, open tryouts are held once each year by all sports, usually within the first few weeks of the fall semester. Winona State University teams compete at the NCAA II level and in the NSIC Conference. Most Warrior teams are capable of competing for conference and national honors. WSU coaches recruit both locally and nationally for student athletes who can succeed both athletically and academically. In order to qualify yourself as a potential intercollegiate varsity athlete at WSU, you should have considerable competitive experience at high school, previous college and/or club levels. To learn more about becoming eligible for intercollegiate athletics, you should obtain the current issue of the NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student Athlete from your guidance counselor, the WSU athletic department or the NCAA.
