Barrone Drafted By Oakland Athletics

WINONA, MN -- Winona State University’s former catcher Ben Barrone has been drafted by the Oakland Athletics.
Barrone was the 47th pick of the 53 players chosen by the A’s. The pick came in the 44th round of the two-day Major League Baseball Draft.
Barrone broke a pair of Winona State home run records, hitting a single-season record 27 round trippers this season and finishing with a WSU career record 43 home runs. The 27 home runs was the fifth best single-season effort in NCAA Division II history. Barrone also played a year at Minnesota State University Mankato where he hit two home runs and finished with a collegiate career total of 45.
Barrone was named the NCAA Division II National Player of the Year by Rawlings/ABCA for the 2006-2007 season and was named to a pair of All-America teams. He also was the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Player of the Year this year and twice was selected to the All-NSIC Team.
