Big Inning Leads To WSU Loss
Story by: Winona State Sports Information Office
BOCA RATON, FL -- A seven-run fifth inning proved to be the difference in a 10-3 loss by Winona State University.
Unfortunately the seven runs were put on the board by Lynn University on five hits a one WSU error.
The Warriors did keep from being shut out with three-runs in the eight, but Lynn countered with three runs in its half of the eighth.
Back-to-back doubles by pinch hitter Joe Kley and Ronnie Olson drove in WSU's first run, while Mike Wendland's base hit plated the second run and Jamie Soyk's single completed the scoring for the Warriors.
Winona State starter Bryan Ruff got nicked for all seven of Lynn's runs in the fifth and took the loss. Ross Hellenbrand came on in the fifth and pitched three innings and struck out six.
Sam Henriksen finished with three hits and Olson and Wendland each knocked out two hits.
