Warriors Go On Offensive Explosion

FORT MYERS, FL -- Winona State University loaded up on offense for 28 runs on 34 hits and 50 total bases in sweeping a doubleheader from the University of Science at Philadlephia 8-3 and 20-2.
Three hits from Ronnie Olson and two hits each from Ross Hellenbrand and Brent Maxwell led the charge for the Warriors in the first game. Hellenbrand and Maxwell each added two runs batted in.
Evan Buhr pitched the first six innings for the Warriors to earn his first collegiate victory. Buhr gave up three runs on six hits and one walk and struck out three.
In the nightcap the Warriors bats really let loose, as they scored their 20 runs on 22 hits. Joe Kley hit his first collegiate home run, a two-run shot in the fifth and finished with three runs batted in.
Kirby Hovden totaled three hits and three runs scored, while Mike Brabender, Hans Heggernes, Mike Wendland, Andrew Kes, Jim Kovacs and Ben Bradley all had two hits.
Freshman, Andrew DeSousa worked the mound duty for five innings, allowed five hits, two runs, one earned, and struck six for his first collegiate victory.
