Maxwell's 10th-Inning Hit Keys WSU Win

Story by: Winona State Sports Information Office

Brent Maxwell LAKELAND, FL -- Brent Maxwell came up with a bases-loaded, 10th-inning, base hit to drive in both runs of a Winona State University 2-0 win over Florida Southern College.

Pinch hitter Jared Anderson led off the tenth with a single and after a throwing error, one out, an intentional walk and a second error, Maxwell came up and ripped a ground ball up the middle to plate what proved to be the winning runs.

The Warriors got what was probably their best pitching outing of their early southern swing, as Brad Bjerke and Donnie Erdall combined for a two-hitter. Bjerke pitched the first four innings and allowed a run and Erdall came on in the fifth, and after allowing a base hit to the first batter he faced, shut down the Moccasins from there on.

The WSU duo struck out 11 batters with Bjerke recording six and Erdall five strikeouts respectively.

The Warriors did come up with seven hits with Ronnie Olson and Ross Hellenbrad getting two hits apiece.
