WSU Completes NSU Sweep

WINONA, MN -- Winona State University completed a four-game sweep of Northern State University by posting 9-7 and 7-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wins at Loughrey Field.
In the opener Ronnie Olson came up with a two-run double in the sixth and Kyle Collins added a two-run double in the fifth to give the Warriors a 9-5 lead they would never relinquish.
Olson and Collins each had two hits and Collins finished with three runs batted in.
Ross Hellenbrand pitched the first six innings for the win. Hellenbrand did give up five runs, but all were unearned as he allowed four hits, two walks and struck out nine. Matt Rubin cleaned up by pitching the final inning.
In the second game Justin Kunferman and Jim Kovacs each gave up a hit in combining for a 7-0 shutout. Kunferman tossed the first five frames and Kovacs hurled the final two innings.
Jared Anderson had two hits and drove in a couple of runs for the Warriors, while Sam Henrickson added two hits in three trips to the plate.
