WINONA, MN -- Don Erdall toss a complete-game victory, but Wiona State University could not complete a comeback in splitting a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader with Concordia University St. Paul at Loughrey Field.
Erdall's win game in a 6-1 WSU decison in the opener between the two teams, while the Warriors were down four runs (6-2) going into the bottom of the seventh. WSU plated three runs and had the tieing run on second base, but could not complete the comeback and lost 6-5.
In that first game Erdall scattered five hits, walked only one and struck six while getting offensive support from Jared Anderson who went 4-for-for with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
Mike Wendland and Ronnie Olson also added two hits apiece, as the Warriors took the lead for good with three runs in the first inning. From there WSU added single runs in the third, four and sixth innings.
In Game Two CSP scored first in the first inning with two runs, but WSU came back to tie the game with a solo home run by Andrew Kes in the second and a run-scoring single by Olson in the third.
An error in the fifth inning eventually led to the WSU downfall, as the Golden Bears came up with three runs. CSP added what proved to be the insurance run it needed in the top of the seventh.
In the Warrior share of the seventh, two walks and a two-run double by pinch-hitter Joe Kley cut the CSP margin to 6-4 and then Olson came up with a single off of third base to score WSU's fifth run. Olson went on to second off an error on the play, but remained there as the game came to an end.
