FAYETTE, IA -- Winona State University lost a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games by scores of 9-4 and 8-1 to Upper Iowa University.
The Warriors outhit the Peacocks in the first game 12-8, but a three-run sixth inning by UIU proved to be the difference in the game.
WSU took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the second only to be countered by UIU with its four runs in the last half of the inning. UIU then added two runs in the fourth and WSU came up with two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Jared Anderson, Joe Kley, John Magee and Jamie Soyk all had two hits with Kley driving in two runs.
Walks hurt the Warriors who gave up ten on the day and four went on to score.
In the second game, the Warriors could come up with only three hits, all singles by three different players, and their only run scored was unearned.
