WINONA, MN -- Winona State University ran off 35 unanswered points and rolled to a 49-14 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win over Upper Iowa University on Maxwell Field at Alltel Stadium.
The Warriors had taken a 14-0 lead only to see the Peacocks come back to tie the game at 14-all with 9:31 left to play in the first half. But from then on the Warriors controlled the game scoring the last two touchdowns of the first half and adding three more scores in the second half.
Randy Spring had a key hand in the WSU offense that produced 598 yards in total offense by rushing for 106 yards on 14 carries and one score. Spring finished up the game with 147 all-purpose yards.
Also on offense, Todd Burkoth had one of his finest days as a Warrior, coming in with six receptions for 101 yards and a score, and Andrew Verbencouer continued is scoring exploits with two more rushing touchdowns.
Rounding out the offense side for the Warriors was, quarterback, Greg Preston with 17 completions in 23 attempts for 241 yards and two touchdowns, while Darren Davis scored once on the ground and once through the air and totaled 144 all-purpose yards.
Defensively Lucas Wolf had two of the Warriors' three interceptions on the game and Eric Swan came up with the other pick.
The leading tacklers for the Warriors were Brent Yule and Jared Stahlecker with ten each.
