Warrior Players/Morrie Miller Youth Camp
Story by: WSU Sports Information Office
Winona, MN -- Warrior Football and The Morrie Miller Foundation teamed up to provide area youth with a three day football experience. July 30 through Aug. 1, Winona State University football players held the first annual Winona State Warrior Football Players & Morrie Miller Youth Football Camp 2007.
The youth camp was set up to give area youth a chance to interact with and learn football skills from Warrior players. Proceeds from the camp will go towards funding semi-annual work relief/volunteer trips made by Warrior football players.
Two years ago, 15 members of the Warrior football program made a week-long trip to New Orleans to aid in hurricane relief. The team members participating in this trip enjoyed it so much that the program plans on making similar trips every other spring with interested football players. The money raised from the youth camp will be used to enable the team to make such trips, helping pay for gas, transportation, meals, lodging and other expenses.
The Morrie Miller/Warrior Players Youth Football Camp was a great success with approximately 80 youth in grades 4-8. They participated in three days of skills, games and fun.
Warrior Football would like to thank Junior wide-receiver, Scott Sherman, for organizing the camp, the other Warrior players who helped coach, the parents who provided transportation for their kids to be part of the fun and especially the Morrie Miller Foundation for helping get this project off the ground.
Dates for next year’s camp will be posted by next spring. Visit the WSU athletics website for more information www.winona.edu/athletics/football.
All youth who participated in this year’s camp will receive free admission to the Warriors’ home opener on Aug. 25, against Michigan Tech at 1:00 p.m. Participants will also be recognized during the game.
