Warriors Sweep League Honors

ST. PAUL, MN -- Winona State University swept the player of the week honors handed out by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The Warriors opened their season with a 47-44 nonconference overtime win over Michigan Tech on Maxwell Field at Alltel Stadium.
Senior, quarterback, Drew Aber was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while, senior, middle linebacker, Marcus LaBadie came up with the Defensive Player of the Week nod and, junior, placekicker, Ryan Abbott was tabbed the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Aber converted 19 of 33 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 18 yards to come up with 307 yards of total offense.
LaBadie recorded five solo tackles and nine unassisted tackles for 14 total tackles and added 1.5 tackles for losses of two yards.
Abbott became the highlight of the game, as his 37-yard field goal in overtime play gave the Warriors the victory. Abbott started the game with a 20-yards field goal and was a perfect in five extra point attempts for 11 total points. Abbott also did all of the kickoff duties for the Warriors and came up with two tackles. And in rounding out his day, Abbott came up with one catch for 15 yards and added another 19 reception yards when he was part of a hook-and-lateral play that helped set up the Warriors' final touchdown that eventually sent the game into overtime play.
