Warriors Win Conference Opener

Alex Wiese WINONA, MN -- Senior, wide receiver, Scott Peters caught five passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns in leading Winona State University to a 32-27 win over the University of Mary in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener for both teams on Maxwell Field at Alltel Stadium.

The win extended WSU's NSIC home winning streak to 27 consecutive games.

Senior, quarterback, Drew Aber had his troubles completing his passes, hitting just 9 of 29. But when he did, he connected for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those TD passes went to Peters. The first came from 44 yards out in the first quarter and the second was a 72-yard catch and run in the third quarter.

Aber also found Tyree Burks, who pulled a pass away from a Mary defender and ran for a 34-yard score in the second quarter.

Alex Wiese put the Warriors on the board in the first quarter when second ran in a score from a yard out.

The other scoring for WSU came from Ryan Abbott, who converted two of three extra-point attempts and field goals of 20 and 31 yards.

Jared Stahlecker led the Warriors with seven unassisted and three assisted tackles for ten total tackles and Tyler Perkette came up with a pair of fumble recoveries.

Both teams had four turnovers.

WSU led 12-7 at the first quarter break and converted two Mary turnover into ten points for a 22-20 lead at halftime. The Warriors then added another seven points in the third period for a 32-20 lead at the period intermission.
