Warriors Overpower Upper Iowa

Story by: Winona State Sports Information Office

Scott Peters FAYETTE, IA -- Wide receiver Scott Peters came up with another big game and the Winona State University defense kept Upper Iowa University out of the endzone in WSU's 41-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win at Eischied Stadium.

Peters finished the game with eight catches for 148 yards and touchdowns of 59 yards in the third quarter and 38 yards in the fourth quarter.

WSU quarterback Drew Aber turned in a solid game, completing 20 passes in 32 attempts for 299 yards and the two TD tosses to Peters. Aber also came up with three yards rushing and finished with 302 yards in total offense.

The other three WSU scores all came on the ground, as Alex Wiese and Darren Davis scored on runs of four and two yards respectively and Andrew Verbancourer had just two carries for 20 yards but each finished off a scoring drive on runs of 2 and 18 yards.

Defensively the Warriors held the Peacocks to 136 yards each rushing and passing for 272 total yards, while picking off a pair of UIU passes and recovering two Upper Iowa fumbles.

Brent Yule had a busy day defensively for the Warriors with six solo and six assisted tackles for 12 total tackles. Yule and Elliott Gaulke each recovered a fumble, while Jared Stahlecker and Tyler Wegner each had an interception.
