Sawyer Wins 100th In WSU 49-20 Victory

WINONA, MN -- Winona State University Head Coach Tom Sawyer came up with his 100th victory when his Warriors recorded a 49-20 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference decision over Northern Sate University on Maxwell Field at Alltel Stadium.
It also was the 29th consecutive home NSIC victory for the Warriors.
Alex Wiese rushed for 111 yards and one score and Drew Aber threw for 288 yards and four touchdowns in sparking the Warriors. Scott Peters was on the receiving end of six catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns, while Tyree Burkes hauled in seven passes for 92 yards and one TD. Scott Sherman had the other passing score in one of his two receptions.
The Warriors also got rushing touchdowns from Darren Davis and Randy Spring.
Defensively the Warriors held the Wolves to just 14 yards rushing, as NSU chose to go to the air 55 times for 329 yards.
Cody Dummer led the WSU defensive charge with 11 total tackles on ten solo and one assisted tackle. Shawn Cunningham added to the effort with one sack and three tackles for loss, while Tony Hill and Craig Martindale came up with interceptions. The Warriors got a third turnover on a fumble recovery from Justin Jensen.
