Warriors Topple Bemidji State

Tyree Burks WINONA, MN -- Winona State University put up 32 first-half points and rolled on to a 35-24 win over Bemidji State University in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Maxwell Field at Alltel Stadium.

The win extended the Warriors' home NSIC winning streak 30 games and left them unbeaten in league play this season.

Tyree Burks and Alex Wiese provided most of the fireworks for the Warriors. Burks caught ten passes for 133 yards and one touchdown, while Wiese struck the Bemidji State defense for 117 yards in 34 carries and two touchdowns.

WSU, senior, quarterback, Drew Aber also had a solid day with 27 completions in 40 attempts for 302 yards and two touchdowns and four rushes for 25 yards and one score for 327 yards in total offense and a hand in three touchdowns.

Defensively the Warriors' Tyler Perkette had a team-high seven total tackles with six solo and one assisted tackle. Craig Martindale came up with one interception and Ryan Rothwell had the other turnover for the Warriors with a fumble recovery.

Wiese scored twice in the first quarter on runs of 14 and 3 yards. Aber ran in the third WSU score form five yards out and Scott Peters and Burks rounded out the first-half Winona State scoring with TD receptions of 33 and 1 yard respectively in the second quarter.

The final WSU score came in the fourth quarter on a 26-yard field goal by Ryan Abbott.
