WSU 6th At NCGA Nationals

Alexandra Nugent CORTLAND, NY -- Winona State University advanced three individuals to the finals in placing sixth in the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association National Championship.

The Warriors came up with an 185.625 total in the team competition, while the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won its eighth title in the last nine years by totaling 189.05.

On the first day of the two-day event, Alexandra Nugent advanced to the individual finals in three events -- vault, balance beam and floor exercise -- while the Warriors had an exceptional showing on the beam by having Eileen Strube and Melissa Baudhuin also advancing to the individual finals of the beam.

The top 14 and ties advanced in each of the individual finals, as Nugent tied for third with a personal best of 9.650 on the beam, tied for fifth on the floor exercise with a personal best of 9.725 and tied seventh on the vault with a personal best of 9.625.

Strube, who was second in last year's nationals and earned All-America honors on the beam, advanced with a personal best of 9.625 and tied for sixth, while Baudhuin wrapped a trio of top-ten finishes for the Warriors by coming up with a 9.550 to tie for nineth.

In the all-around competiton, Nugent was seventh with a personal best of 38.000 and Strube was 18th with a 35.875.
