Nugent Earns All-America All-Around Honors

Alexandra Nugent CORTLAND, NY -- Winona State University junior Alexandra Nugent captured All-America all-around honors in the National Collegiate Gymnastics Assocaition National Championship.

Nugent grabbed the honor by placing seventh with a personal-best of 38.000.

Nugent's final total came with a 9.625 on the vault, 9.000 on the uneven parallel bars, 9.650 on the balance beam and 9.750 on the floor exercise. Nugent's vault, beam and floor scores were all personal bests.

Nugent also has a chance to earn more All-America honors, as she advanced to the second day of the competition and the finals of the individual championships. Nugent advanced on the beam with a tie for third, on the floor with a tie for fifth and on the vault with a tie for seventh.

Also having an opportunity to earn balance beam All-America honors for Winona State is, junior, Eileen Strube and, freshman, Melissa Baudhuin. Strube, who was second in last year's nationals and earned All-America honors, tied for sixth with a personal best of 9.625 and Baudhuin tied for ninth with a 9.550.

In the finals of the individual competition, the top six finishers will be named to the All-America First Team and the 7-12 finishers will be placed on the All-American Second Team.
